Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness on Tuesday, 7 October 2025, aged 82 years. Beloved husband of Kathie. Cherished father and father-in-law of Kim Hands and Miles, and Jodee and Wayne Reid. A proud and loving grandfather, he will be deeply missed by Rachel and Brandon, Kalani and Jayda, Matisse, Fraanz, Zavia and Krystle, Jasper, Kahlo, Vaughan, Kyla, Jayden, Ollie, and Charlie, and adored great-grandfather to Jace John. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass and have a toast in John’s memory tonight.

A service to celebrate John’s life will be held at the Napier Sailing Club, 63 West Quay, Ahuriri on Tuesday, 14 October at 1.30pm.
